My Dream Parisian Adventure: A Wishlist for the First-Time Visitor

Eiffel tower, Paris: For my wishlist

Ever since I can remember, the thought of visiting Paris has filled me with a sense of wonder and excitement. Known as the City of Lights, Paris stands as a beacon of art, culture, history, and romance. The city’s enchanting blend of historic grace and contemporary vibrancy has long captivated my imagination. As I plan to go one day to this magical city, I put together a wishlist of experiences and sights that embody the essence of Parisian charm and beauty.

Enchanted Evenings in the City of Lights

The thought of Parisian evenings evokes a sense of magic and romance. One experience I am really looking forward to is a cruise along the Seine. I’d love to go at night! A night cruise on the Seine in Paris seems like a scene from a dream. I imagine floating along the river, the landmarks around me lit up at night, including Notre Dame and the Eiffel Tower. How awesome would that backdrop be while I’m on the boat?! It would all look so elegant from where I would be on the water. Apart from this, exploring the vibrant nightlife of Paris, from cute bistros to lively jazz clubs, would be a lot of fun. Those nights are something I look forward to.

A Day at the Louvre: Seeing Famous Art

Visiting the Louvre, a global icon of art and history is a must on my Paris itinerary. The idea of being in the same room as the Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory of Samothrace, or the huge collection of Egyptian antiquities is exciting! I imagine spending an entire day wandering through all the corridors, each turn revealing another piece of human history and artistic genius. The Louvre is not just a museum; it’s a journey through time and creativity. I can’t wait to immerse myself in everything I’ll find at this iconic museum.

The Eiffel Tower: A Symbol of Dreams

The Eiffel Tower is more than just a landmark. It’s a symbol of ambition and dreams. While the idea of visiting this iconic structure might seem cliché to some, for me, it represents a personal achievement. Standing beneath its towering frame and looking up at its intricate ironwork, I expect to be overwhelmed with awe. Climbing to the top and viewing Paris from its heights is an experience I’ve dreamt of, not only for the amazing views but also the moment of reflection I have up there about the journey that brought me there.

Culinary Delights: A Taste of Paris

French cuisine is so well known for being both delicious and sophisticated looking. It’s a highlight of any trip to Paris. My culinary wishlist includes savoring classic French dishes in traditional brasseries (yes, I learned that French term!) and indulging in tasty pastries in a street-side patisserie. And perhaps even try a cooking class to learn the secrets of French cooking. I’m not Julia Child, but I can still try. I can almost taste the warm croissant, the rich taste of coq au vin, and the experience of dining in a quintessentially Parisian place.

Wanderlust in Historic Paris

The historic parts of Paris are like pages from a storybook, each with its own narrative and charm. I think about walking the cobblestone streets of Montmartre, following in the footsteps of famous artists and writers. The Marais, with its elegant mansions and so much culture, is another area I want to go to. These neighborhoods will show me parts of the soul of Paris, with history around every corner. History meets modern life, as I’ll see when I’m there.

Green Spaces: The Gardens of Paris

Amid its urban landscape, Paris has beautiful gardens and parks that I’ve only seen in photos and videos so far. These green spaces look like quiet retreats from the busy city. In particular, I plan to spend time in the Luxembourg Gardens. It looks so pretty there! Maybe I’ll have a picnic by its iconic Medici Fountain. The Tuileries is another green haven I’ll visit to relax and reflect.

Shopping in Paris, Too

Paris is at the forefront of fashion, so I’ll make time to shop, too. Shopping isn’t an activity I usually enjoy, but I don’t want to miss that experience when I’m there. Window shopping at high-end boutiques on the Rue Saint-Honoré would seem unreal. And looking for vintage items at the Saint-Ouen flea market. I also look forward to people-watching as I’m out and about at the fashion everyone is wearing, discovering the latest trends, and finding great souvenirs to take home to loved ones.

Discovering Hidden Gems

In addition to seeing the well-known landmarks, I want to check out other sights too. From the Gothic beauty of Sainte-Chapelle to the Art Nouveau splendors of the Paris Métro entrances, the city’s architecture is something I can’t wait to look at and take photos of to remember for a long time to come. The architecture reveals so much about history. It’s at the lesser-known sites that I’ll probably find a lot of unexpected things about Parisian culture.

Embracing Parisian Life through Home Swapping

When thinking about my dream adventure to Paris, I may look at home swapping. This unique approach to travel will allow me to immerse myself fully in the Parisian lifestyle, living as a local rather than a tourist. By swapping homes with a Parisian, I anticipate not just a place to stay but a home with its own stories and character. What a great experience overseas that would be!

What specific experience or sight are you looking forward to in Paris? Or, have you been there, and, if so, what do you recommend I visit?

  1. I hope you get there Christy! I have not visited there, but have enjoyed other European vacations and sightseeing. Please let us know when your dreams come true! Happy 2024!

  2. Christy, you will love Paris, no matter what you do or where you go. There is so much to see and enjoy!
We spent ten days in Paris visiting all the tourist hot spots, some you’ve mentioned above. However, I now wish we’d spent a little time out in the country areas. I hear the hospitality of the country folk is hard to beat.
I love the ‘home swapping’ idea. What fun that could be!
I look forward to reading all about your adventure in the time ahead.
