Dating an introvert can be hard
That’s because introverts often prefer to live a quiet life indoors rather than go out and engage in various activities with other people, even if it is summertime. All of which can make it difficult to understand what they want when it comes to figuring out fun date ideas for you two.
This behavior can make it extremely difficult to actually meet single introverts, or meet others if you’re an introvert yourself. This makes online dating a great option for most and one we really recommend. If you don’t know where to start it’s always a good idea to check out some well researched dating app reviews from people who actually test them out. A little expert advice goes a long way.
If your partners portrays some of these personality traits, then they’re probably an introvert:
- Solitude makes you feel good – Loving to be alone is a personality trait of most introverts. They usually love to read a book, watch a movie, or just relax indoors.
- Everyone says that they’re quiet – If that’s what you hear and agree, the chances are that you’re dating an introvert.
- They’ve very self-aware – Introverts tend to spend a lot of time assessing themselves and thinking about what is going on in their lives. As a result, they are quite self-aware.
So then if you’re wanting to get out for a nice time together, how exactly can you swing it so that your partner doesn’t think they’d having their teeth pulled?
Check out these lively dating ideas to brighten your lives without your other half trying to squirm their way out of it. Yup, they might just have a good time!
10 fun introvert dating ideas:
1. Watch a movie
Yes, you can stay indoors and still have a hoot. Watching movies over the weekend or on evenings when both of you are free is an opportunity to cuddle and spend time together.
With internet access today, all you need to have is a smart TV and you can stream movies through one of the many options. We have Netflix, for example. There are many other platforms that have films too whenever you want them.
This activity also is a good exercise in compromise because, well, you’ll have to decide on which movie to watch! While you each might gravitate toward different movie genres, you could alternate which one you watch each week. That’s fair, right?
And the discussions that come from the flicks you watch together could even improve your relationship.
2. Cook together
Next up, cooking. If you’d rather poke your eyes with chopsticks than get in the kitchen, or you’re dating an introvert who feels that way, hear me out on this one.
Cooking together is way more enjoyable together than alone, in my opinion. You can collaborate on everything from what to how to put it on the plate.
As part of the process, go to the grocery store together to get the ingredients. It’s rewarding to have a challenge like “Make lasagna from scratch” and see it through together. Not only are you having quality time together but you also get a yummy meal at the end of it.
To be clear here, I suggest doing something other than the ordinary dishes you two eat together. Instead, make it a more involved dinner that takes more effort so it engages you to spend the entire Saturday afternoon with one another.
More inspo when dating an introvert:
3. Read books together
Head to the library on Friday and borrow a few books. Pick ones that sound interesting to you or that feature a shared interest of you and your boyfriend or girlfriend.
Then come Saturday morning, if you’re both off work and the weather’s nice out, spend some time reading in the park. There are two versions of this outing:
- You read from two books independently
- You read to one another
Personally I think the second option is more romantic, but totally up to you! And it depends on which option you and the introverted person you met on the Happymatches platform prefer too.
If neither of you consider reading a hobby, on the other hand, then move onto other fun dating ideas on the list here.
4. Fun date ideas include visiting a museum
When you both have a day off together, why not go out to a museum? When dating an introvert, this destination will likely be a better pick than a club or public beach.
That’s because typically museums are quiet and don’t have big crowds. Although kids on school trips, can be an exception.
At the museum, you’ll spend your morning or afternoon, you both can enjoy benefits, such as:
- Learn more about popular historic facts
- Take in local culture
- Find inspiration for your own projects
- Spend quality time together
- Create a new memory as a couple
Here’s a quick rundown of the top introvert dating ideas

5. Dating an introvert? Watch the stars
Star watching is an old activity for lovers. However, it is almost exclusively left to introverts and astrology lovers today. It seems like nobody wants to do it anymore!
But it’s still super romantic. Especially if you met online and now use technology again with an app to tune into the night’s sky. There are tons of stargazing apps out there and many are totally free. Yup, fun date ideas don’t have to cost a cent.
As for where exactly to have this outing with your sweetheart, it could be on your apartment balcony, a nearby rooftop restaurant, or another place you think is divine. Since the weather is limiting for this one, look at the weather forecast and choose an evening with clear skies.
If you both really like this idea (or any of the other fun date ideas), make it a habit. Surprisingly, you will learn that the stars in the sky look a bit different every time. Maybe you’ll even create some games together revolving around the stars.
6. A walk in the park is one of the classic date ideas
If you are lucky enough to have a park in your area, then start taking walks as a couple. Well-maintained parks are not only quiet but very satisfying for both introverts and extroverts.
Nature and fresh air will strengthen your bond even more. Exactly what this date looks like is up to you.
Maybe you’ll bring a blanket to have a picnic in a quiet part of the park. Or you’ll swap trivia about the local area as you walk along holding hands.
Maybe you’ll even spice things up with a fun conversation or two during the walk. Then go home as a happy couple, if you get my drift.
7. Candle lit dinner
This type of dinner is excellent for any couple, I think. But even more so when you’re dating an introvert because it’s a quiet atmosphere.
It’s also a great way to spend some quality time together as you chat in whispers at a corner table of a restaurant or at home. Try to choose a place that’s a bit away from the heart of the city to make sure it’s not overly crowded.
Just in case it’s busier than usual on date night, though, plan ahead by making a reservation. That’ll help to avoid last-minute disappointments that can mess things up for both of you.
After making the reso, call the eatery the day beforehand to double-check they still have it. If you’re running late on the night of, even by 5 minutes, it’s good etiquette to call the restaurant to let them know.
8. Fun introvert dating ideas: Invite another couple out
Although you’re dating an introvert, both of you need other people as well. Why not ask another couple to join you for a double date on a weekend afternoon or evening after work?
Garden restaurants away from the city will make a great double date location for the four of you. However, all of you have to decide beforehand where to go so that everyone will feel comfortable there.
9. How about going to a show with your partner?
Whether it’s a comedy, play, or a movie in the theater, a show can be a terrific activity to do together. While they can get crowded, plan ahead to get there before most people.
If there’s no assigned seating then I absolutely recommend going early! Then you can grab a quiet corner in one of the front rows.
It’s a nice idea for an afternoon or evening as shows can prompt introspection and even laughter. Laughing is good for you both! A great play or film can also make for interesting discussions afterward.
10. Take a vacation
Going on the first trip together is a big step for any couple. Whether it’s your first vaca or not, this outing is one that can really bring you two closer.
Plan it together, from the destination to the activities to do there. If you want it to be extra-special, this romantic holiday guide can help.
Traveling during the low season might be ideal for your introvert partner as places are often quiet. The cost of your holiday will also be lower than during the high season, and so is the flight cost.
Final words on fun introvert dating ideas
When dating an introvert, things can be challenging to plan. But with the suggestions above, every moment will be taken to another level.
If these activities go well, do them more often to keep the relationship satisfying. And tweak the ideas so that neither of your compromise your personalities while doing them.
Which of these fun date ideas is your favorite, and why? I love hearing from you!

My wife and I are both introverts. When we first started dating, I made sure to set plans that we’d both enjoy and not feel out of our comfort zone. We watched movies, went to small coffee shops, made dinner together, and even went to watch a planetarium show! Your stargazing suggestion reminded me of being at the planetarium with her. Great ideas!
Great to hear you’re finding ways to have dates that are within both of your comfort zones, Thomas!
Great post! I wish the world understood introverts this way!
Bring on the fun dates :)
They are all good ideas. Some more are:
* Go shopping together,
* Go hiking together,
* Look for festivals (e.g. food, drink, historical, etc) in your area, they can be really fun.
* Go on a treasure trail,
* Pin a map of your area to a cork (or similar) board and throw a dart at it – wherever it lands, look for a place nearby that you’ve never been to and go explore!!
Ohhhh thanks for the additional suggestions here, Andrea! I especially like the “pin the map” one as it’s a lot of unknowns for where you’d end up, which is exciting :)
Ooo.. these are great ideas! I’m going to use some of those for my next date with my hubby!
Woot, enjoy your next date with hubby!
I’m somewhat of an introvert, while my hubby is not, but we did many of these things while dating and still do, when we make time for “dates” for just the two of us.
Date nights, I love that you have date nights :)
This is so affirming for introverts, like me, and the activities are spot on. It’s so nice to hear that an introvert can still have needs met, while still being together with their significant other. :) Thank you!
Yes, the main thing for me when posting this dating guide was to make sure every activity was presented as something that’s not super uncomfortable for the couple. And I’m glad to hear that’s what you felt while reading it! Thanks for being here :)
Both the hubby and myself are introverts (thank goodness in our cases!). I’d say that this is a strong list of possibilities that would make most introverts happy.
I especially love the stargazing idea or a quiet walk in nature. The simple things in life can be so incredibly profound. Also in full agreement with cooking a romantic meal together – having a silly, goofy and playful atmosphere makes it all the better. (especially if one isn’t wild about cooking)
Helping an introvert relax and not being stuck in their head, evaluating every little minute detail of what they’re saying, feeling or looking like is the key. :) Once we let down the guard and just simply live in the moment, many of us can be mistaken for extroverts.
Great tips Christy! I loved it! ❤
OH Holly, I like what you say about the little things being what matters the most. Your comment here is so heartwarming and knowing you and hubby do many of these bonding activities makes me happy :) Two cooks in the kitchen can be fun, YES! xx
I’m more of an introvert and can happily say all of these ideas are spot on as things I’d enjoy and feel more comfortable with! xx
Aw, comfort is HUGE on a date or any other outing.
Stargazing!
That’s my favorite part of this post!!
Great post! I’m not sure – don’t many of these suggested activities also apply to extroverts? Also, the many introverts that I dated were in many cases happy that I as an extrovert introduced them to non-introvert stuff.
The main thing is to spend quality time together :) While not every suggestion will suit every couple, I’m hoping at least one making for a fun day/evening together xx
